Coercive Control
Incidents of Matrimonial or Cohabitational abuse that stop short of violence but which constitute non physical abuse are on the increase.
Within one year 17,616 offences for “cohesive control” have been listed. This has only been recently turned into a criminal offence and is obviously difficult to prove as a crime in its own right.
The importance of this new legislation is that it does indicate that there is no longer a requirement for there to be physical injuries before the Police will regard matters as being worthy of a domestic abuse allegation.
