Civil Partnerships for Heterosexual Couples
At last couples who wanted to have heterosexual civil partnerships can enter into the same way as same sex couples have been able to do so for some time.
This may have ramifications for over three million cohabiting couples who either wish to enter into a civil partnership or who wish to campaign for similar rights. At present however cohabitants will still not have any rights akin to civil partnership or marriage.
The couple in question wished to have a civil partnership because they had theoretical objections to the institution of marriage. But what they wanted really was the recognition of their relationship, without the label of being married. Accordingly this new development really just applies to just a very few.
